Healthy Ways to Keep Cool this Summer

When it’s hot out, there’s no better way to cool off than with a refreshing & healthy frozen treat!  Skip the store bought variety and make your own, it’s easy and much healthier.  You’ll feel refreshed and satisfy your sweet tooth while eating fresh fruits and possibly even some veggies.

Homemade popsicles are a big hit around my house.  To get started, you can purchase popsicle molds or just use some small paper cups and popsicle sticks.  I freeze extra smoothie and always have popsicles ready for my daughter when she is craving a sweet treat.  Her favorite recipe is frozen strawberries, mango, blueberries, banana and spinach blended with some homemade yogurt and a little bit of maple syrup.  It’s delicious as a smoothie or popsicle and you can’t even tell there is spinach in there!

Another really easy & healthy treat is what we call “Banana Ice Cream”.  Just peel a banana, slice it up and freeze.  Throw a handful of frozen bananas into the blender with a little water and it turns into a creamy ice cream like treat.  You can add anything you want to change up the flavor; try adding peanut butter, chocolate chips or additional frozen fruits.  My daughter likes to sprinkle freeze dried strawberries on top or some frozen mixed berries.
